United Nations, Jun 8: India on Monday hit out at Pakistan at the UN, slamming Islamabad’s decision to refer to groups inside its own borders as 'Fitna al-Hindustan' as nothing but "officially sponsored misinformation and disinformation dressed in religious terminology.” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni delivered a strong statement against Pakistan here during a UN Security Council meeting on the ‘Situation in Afghanistan’. New Delhi, Jun 7: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Sunday said that Indian households continue to enjoy some of the lowest cooking gas prices in the world despite a sharp rise in international LPG prices following disruptions in West Asia. According to the ministry, a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) currently pays an effective Rs 642 for a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder after subsidy, while the general consumer in Delhi pays Rs 942. The ministry noted that the actual cost of supplying a cylinder has risen to more thanRs 1,600 due to higher global prices.

Official precipitation figures reveal that Jammu and Kashmir received significantly below-normal rainfall during May as well, recording 49.4 mm precipitation against the normal of 77.5 mm — a deficit of 36 per cent. The latest deficit continues a worrying trend that has persisted since late last year, with every month since November 2025 ending with below-normal rainfall and snowfall across the region.

Road ministry leads with 37 projects Ovaise Gul Srinagar, Jun 09: Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a massive infrastructure push with 47 ongoing Central Sector Infrastructure Projects (CSIPs) under implementation at Rs 66,609.58 crore, according to the Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring and Analytics for Nation-building (PAIMANA). The original cost for the projects was Rs 60,382.03 crore, which was revised and increased to Rs 66,609.58 crore, the data accessed by Rising Kashmir reveals. The 48th Flash Report on Central Sector Infrastructure Projects, released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), indicates that the largest share of projects belongs to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, which is implementing 37 projects in the Roads & Highways sector.

Srinagar, Jun 9: Two soldiers died in an accidental grenade blast in Uri sector of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said. A hand grenade exploded accidentally during routine handing over of equipment at a camp in Kamalkote in Uri, resulting in injuries to two jawans, the officials said. They said the injured jawans were shifted to the Army's 92 Base Hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Kulgam, Jun 10 : The Wildlife Department on Wednesday said it captured two black bears from Nagam village in the Damhal Hanjipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said. An official told that both bears were trapped from the same location in Nagam village following reports of their movement in the area. He said one of the bears was later released into a wildlife sanctuary after completion of the necessary procedures, while the other bear is currently under observation.“The second bear will also be released into a suitable habitat shortly,” he said.—(KNO)

Srinagar, Jun 10 : National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said his party desires restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, not merely the rules of business, and is awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre to keep its word on the issue. Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) on the sidleness of a function former CM Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “We want not just business rule but the return of statehood. It is the promise of the PM-led Centre across the world that they will restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.We are waiting for that,” he said.

Taliban chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced the airstrikes, which he said targeted the Afghan provinces of Khost, Kunar and Paktika. He said the strikes killed 11 children, one woman and one elderly man.

Srinagar, Jun 9: Residents of Pine Avenue Colony at Rawalpora area in Srinagar on Tuesday staged a protest against the functioning of a hotel and proposed marriage hall in their locality, saying such activities are disrupting the peaceful character of the residential area. The protesters assembled near local masjid and held placards carrying messages such as "Our homes are not event venues", "No more chaos in our colony", "Residential colony, not a commercial zone", "Enforce building laws", and "Protect residents". The residents alleged that the hotel has become a source of persistent disturbance due to noise, traffic congestion, parking issues, and activities that they claimed are incompatible with a residential neighborhood.

Srinagar, Jun 9: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on Tuesday pitched for a united political approach to seek the restoration of statehood and other constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir, with party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari urging all stakeholders to set aside political differences and jointly engage with the Centre on issues concerning the future of the Union Territory. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Bukhari said the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) had recently met to deliberate on the prevailing political situation, particularly the growing demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said the party had observed that some political groups were attempting to derive political mileage from what he termed a serious and sensitive issue.
