Srinagar, Jun 8: A country-wide shortage of platinum-based chemotherapy drugs has begun affecting cancer treatment in several parts of India, triggering concern among patients, oncologists and healthcare providers. While the shortage has disrupted supplies in many regions, major government hospitals in Kashmir have assured that they currently possess adequate stocks to continue treatment without interruption for the next several months. The shortage primarily pertains to platinum-based compounds such as Cisplatin and Carboplatin, which are considered critical medicines in the treatment of a wide range of cancers, including lung, ovarian, head and neck, bladder and several other solid tumours.
