New Delhi, Jun 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged the Centre to review the proposed closure of Srinagar Airport in October, citing concerns over tourism, connectivity, and public convenience in Jammu and Kashmir. During meetings with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, CM Omar sought alternatives including phased runway works, a revised closure schedule, and contingency flight operations from Awantipora to minimise disruption. CM Omar separately met Union Defence Minister Singh and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Naidu in New Delhi and raised concerns over the proposed closure of Srinagar International Airport from October 1 to 16, 2026, scheduled under Phase III of the runway resurfacing project.

Srinagar, June 15 : DIG Traffic Kashmir Range, Haseeb Ur Rehman (IPS) today, on 15.06.2026, conducted an extensive tour of South Kashmir in connection with Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 to assess the traffic situation, especially at Toll Plaza Awantipora, Anantnag, Nowyug Tunnel, Yatra Transit Camp Mir Bazar, Levdora Walnut Factory Qazigund, Pahalgam and several other key locations. The DIG Traffic Kashmir was accompanied by Liyaqat Ali, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, and other senior officers of Police. During the visit, the DIG Traffic Kashmir held meetings with senior officers of Traffic Police, CRPF and local Police at the Yatri Transit Camps of Walnut Factory Levdora Kulgam, Mir Bazar Food Depot and Nunwan Parking Area, Pahalgam, regarding hassle-free movement during SANJY-2026.

Srinagar, June 13: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police arrested 5 drug peddlers in Anantnag, Awantipora & Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession. Police in a statement said that in Anantnag, police achieved significant success by apprehending two drug peddlers in separate operations. In the first operation, a police party of Police Station Utrasoo apprehended one person identified as Mohd Yousuf Magray son of Wali Mohd Magray resident of Cherpora near village Sheikhpora Chund.

RK News Service Srinagar, June 6: Peoples Conference president and Handwara MLA Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday questioned PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s decision to chair a review meeting at AIIMS Awantipora despite not being an elected legislator, terming the move a “constitutional impropriety” and warning that it could set an undesirable precedent in Jammu and Kashmir. Lone warned that Mehbooba Mufti’s act, carried out without holding any elected office, has set a dangerous precedent that could open the floodgates for other non-elected individuals to assume similar institutional authority in Jammu & Kashmir. “The chairing of the review meeting at AIIMS by a non-MLA was an unconstitutional trespass and will remain an unconstitutional trespass,” Lone said.

Srinagar, June 6: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday questioned former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for chairing a review meeting at AIIMS Awantipora despite not being an elected legislator, terming the move a “constitutional impropriety.” In a post on X, Sajad Lone asked what would prevent non-elected functionaries of other political parties, including the BJP or RSS, from chairing similar meetings if such a precedent was accepted. He also questioned whether other senior political leaders who are not MLAs could similarly preside over official review meetings. The JKPC Chief argued that political entitlement of this nature was not seen elsewhere in the country and warned that it could blur constitutional and institutional boundaries in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, June 6: PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said she has urged Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to expedite the ongoing work on AIIMS Awantipora to ensure that the project is completed without further delay. In a post on X, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, “Spoke with Union Health Minister JP Nadda ji & requested him to expedite the ongoing work at AIIMS Awantipora so that it doesn’t get delayed any further.He was kind enough to assure me about its completion well on time.” “Undoubtedly the team assigned here is toiling day & night but given how healthcare is crumbling across J&K it’s imperative AIIMS Awantipora is operational soon. Will provide much needed relief & quality medical services,” the post reads.

Awantipora, Jun 5: The Centre for Cybersecurity, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in collaboration with the Office of the Dean Outreach and CDAC Mohali, organised a one-day workshop titled “Cybersecurity: Safeguarding Digital Frontiers”. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about cybersecurity threats, digital safety practices, and the need to safeguard institutional digital infrastructure. The workshop focused on emerging cybersecurity challenges and best practices for securing digital environments.
