During the meeting, Mirdef Alqashouti, Qatar's ambassador, described his country's ties with Afghanistan as historic and deep. In a statement, the Islamic Emirate's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "The Ambassador of the State of Qatar described his country's relations with Afghanistan as historic and deep, and said that Qatar, within the framework of its mediation-based foreign policy, remains committed to supporting constructive engagement and expanding ties between Afghanistan and the international community." According to the ministry, the two sides also discussed regional issues of mutual interest in addition to expanding bilateral relations.
