A relative lull reigns this Saturday, August 3 in the eastern part of the capital of Rutshuru territory, after a day of clashes between the M23 rebels supported by Rwanda, and the Wazalendo militias. These fights took place on Friday, August 2, on the Kiwanja-Ishasha road, in the Bwisha chiefdom, while a 15-day humanitarian truce, initiated by the United States of America, expired on the evening of August 3. Sources report that several villages in the cluster Binza came under the control of the M23 rebels. These villages include Ngwenda, Nyabanira, Kasave, Kiseguro, Katwiguru, and Kisharo, located between 15 and 30 km from the city of Kiwanja, on the Kiwanja-Ishasha road. These new occupied villages add to an already long list of localities under M23 control in Rutshuru territory. The clashes began early in the morning of Friday, August 2, when M23 rebels launched attacks on Wazalendo positions. The fighting lasted most of the day, displacing dozens of households.
