India has appointed retired Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani as its new Chief of Defence Staff, effective upon Gen Anil Chauhan's departure on May 30. Subramani, a 40-year veteran with expertise on Pakistan and China, will lead implementation of India's military theaterisation plan to integrate tri-service operations. He previously served as Vice Chief of Army Staff and Military Advisor to the National Security Council.
