When Asucena Velázquez hugged her 17-year-old son before he left for school Tuesday morning, she never imagined he would not return home.
Pedro Ramírez was heading from his home in the Back of the Yards neighborhood to Tilden High School when he was shot and killed in the 5000 block south of Throop St.
"It never crossed my mind that my child could be hurt going to school," Velázquez told the Sun-Times. "They stole my son's future."
