Oxfam's Africa Director, Fathi N'Zi-Hassane, on Friday 7 June called for increased assistance to displaced people in the North Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. She made this recommendation during a visit to three IDP sites in Rusayo, Nyiragongo territory, Goma. At the end of her visit, she indicated that the situation of IDPs in the region requires special attention from decision-makers at the global level. “We need the support of the international community to enable us to continue to support the growing number of IDPs. So, we will have to mobilize enough resources," pleaded Fathi N 'zi-Hassane. Oxfam's Africa Director advocates for prioritising the crisis in eastern DRC, which currently has 6.5 million IDPs, making the region one of the most affected by the forced displacement around the world. She wants this issue to become a priority on the international agenda so that the necessary funding can support the actions of Oxfam and the humanitarian community in the region.
