The seasonal camps established by the Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry Departments at Dobjan in south Kashmir's Shopian district have emerged as a vital support system for migratory nomads and their livestock during the annual movement to Kashmir's upper reaches. An official from the Animal Husbandry Department said the camps, operational from April 15 to October 15 every year, provide free veterinary services, medicines, deworming, vaccination and emergency healthcare to livestock moving through the traditional migratory route connecting Rajouri and Poonch with Kashmir's alpine pastures. Veterinary Pharmacist Gulzar Ahmad, who has been posted at the camp since 2011, said the facility has been serving nomadic communities for decades.
