Spanish authorities have dismantled a criminal organization in a security operation that used drones to smuggle drugs from northern Morocco to Europe, signaling a new trend of smuggling networks employing modern technology in their cross-border operations. The operation, carried out in coordination with the Spanish judiciary according to an announcement by the Spanish National Police, resulted in the arrest of eight individuals suspected of involvement in transporting shipments of hashish and cocaine across the Strait of Gibraltar using fixed-wing drones capable of covering distances at record speed. Security data revealed that network members used large aircraft equipped with four engines, with wingspans of approximately four meters each, capable of carrying up to 20 kilograms of cargo and flying at speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, enabling them to bypass traditional surveillance systems and move quickly between Moroccan and Spanish coasts.
