Aharbal, Jun 11: Nestled amid dense forests and towering mountains in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, Aharbal—renowned for its roaring waterfall and breathtaking natural beauty—continues to remain off-limits to tourists, dealing a severe blow to the livelihoods of hundreds of people directly and indirectly dependent on the tourism sector. Popularly known as the "Niagara Falls of Kashmir", Aharbal had emerged as one of the Valley's most sought-after tourist destinations in recent years, attracting thousands of visitors during the summer season. However, the destination was closed following the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, prompting authorities to impose restrictions on several tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir as a precautionary security measure.
