India's government has announced that Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, a specialist in communications and electronic warfare, will become the next Chief of Naval Staff, taking over from Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi upon his retirement on May 31, 2026. Swaminathan, currently commanding the Western Naval Command, brings extensive operational experience including command of multiple naval vessels and carriers, and holds advanced degrees from institutions in the UK and US.
