Srinagar, Jun 25: Jammu and Kashmir is set to observe Youm-e-Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS), on Friday with profound solemnity and religious devotion. Thousands of Shia mourners are expected to participate in ‘Alam’ and ‘Zuljanah’ processions across J&K to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala. The day commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and his companions in the historic Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram, 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE). Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, holds deep significance for the Shia community as a period of mourning, reflection, and remembrance of the eternal values of justice, sacrifice, and resistance against tyranny.
