The de facto foreign ministry of Tskhinvali stated that the European Union and its member states are pressuring Syria's new leadership over Damascus' recognition of Georgia's occupied territories. Abkhazia's de facto foreign minister commented that such efforts to reverse the recognition are not new, especially following the predicted fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
