# Translation: Chagas Disease and Cardiac Surgery Mortality Risk Chagas disease patients who present with severe arrhythmias have higher mortality risk than other groups with heart diseases. This information is one of the conclusions of a study conducted by researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at USP. The study, which reviewed data on care for Chagas disease patients who needed to undergo cardiac surgeries at Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo, found a concerning pattern: the risk of death after surgeries is much higher, approximately 2.4 times, for this population than for patients with other cardiac diseases in the postoperative period.
