Jammu, Jul 07: In a latest development, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has ordered a comprehensive review of all library books available in government and private schools as well as coaching centres across the Jammu division. Move comes in wake of the recent controversy over the approval of books for libraries in schools. As per the fresh circular issued by Director School Education Jammu, all Heads of Institutions (HOIs) have been directed to examine every book, including recently procured and older publications, available in classrooms, libraries, offices and staff rooms to ensure that "no objectionable or inappropriate content is being used in educational institutions." The circular reads that the exercise aims to identify any material that may violate religious sentiments, prevailing laws, educational values or established norms. "All the reading material must conform to the age-appropriate guidelines and objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020," DSEK circular reads.
