High-intensity winds that swept across several villages of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday evening caused widespread damage to walnut orchards, raising concerns among farmers over significant crop losses at a critical stage of the season. According to local growers, strong gusts battered large parts of the district for more than an hour, forcing a substantial quantity of immature walnuts to fall prematurely from trees. The affected villages include Kadgam, Handew, Kanigam, Nagbal, Chitragam, Dobipora, Manihal and Imam Sahib.
