New Delhi, Jun 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held extensive bilateral talks on the sidelines of the G7 Summit on Wednesday, discussing the evolving situation in West Asia, maritime security, defence cooperation and regional stability, while reaffirming the strength of the India-US strategic partnership. The meeting came amid efforts to implement the recently announced US-Iran agreement and restore normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global energy supplies and India's oil imports. The two leaders, who had exchanged greetings and a warm handshake on the sidelines of the summit a day earlier, met for their first substantive face-to-face interaction in 16 months.
