China has enacted a new "ethnic unity" law that entered into force on July 1st, designed to promote social harmony and shared national identity among 56 ethnic groups. However, Uighur and Tibetan minority representatives have condemned the law as a tool to erase their cultures in favor of Han majority dominance.
