Public Health France estimates that nearly 6,000 people died due to the intense heat in June. Over 30 years, heat-related deaths have increased by 85% according to the medical journal The Lancet. According to the same journal, 8 out of 10 heat waves would not have occurred without climate change. The disruption of the climate system is directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people each year.
