China believes that the effects of the weather phenomenon El Niño will reach their peak in autumn and winter, reports the state broadcaster CCTV, citing China's national climate center. El Niño occurs naturally at intervals of 2–7 years when surface water in parts of the Pacific Ocean becomes abnormally warm.
