Britain nationalized British Steel after its Chinese owner Jingye Group moved to close blast furnaces at the Scunthorpe plant, the last facility in the country that produces primary steel from raw materials. The takeover, announced by the Department for Business and Trade, aims to preserve 2,700 jobs and secure steel supplies for defense and major construction projects.
