India's copper demand is projected to grow by roughly 9% annually, requiring an additional 500,000 tonnes of refined capacity every five years, according to the International Copper Association India. Planned domestic smelter expansions will add only 100,000 tonnes of capacity against total demand of 1.8 million tonnes, leaving a significant supply shortfall.
