Srinagar, Jun 14: As the 57-day Amarnath Yatra prepares to commence on July 3, security agencies have achieved near-complete clearance of the primary yatra routes, with a historic first-time involvement of the highly specialised VIKAS Unit (Vikas Battalions) of the Special Frontier Force (SFF). These elite troops are now covering the high ridges and dominating heights overlooking the Pahalgam-to-cave shrine trail, providing an additional layer of overwatch in one of the most challenging high-altitude terrains. The deployment comes amid heightened security concerns following previous incidents in the region and aims to ensure foolproof protection for lakhs of devotees expected to undertake the arduous trek to the 12,756-meter-high cave shrine housing the natural ice lingam.
