The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has upheld a trial court’s decision whereby a former official of the State Forest Corporation (SFC) was convicted and sentenced to one year’s simple imprisonment in a corruption case in 2020. Dismissing an appeal by Falil Ur Rehman, a bench of Justice Sanjay Dhar held that recovery of tainted money, coupled with credible evidence of demand and acceptance of bribe, was sufficient to sustain his conviction. The appellant had challenged Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar’s, 2020 judgment convicting him under the erstwhile J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 161 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
