Sergio Castillo's walk-off field goal lifted the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a 30-28 win over the host Calgary Stampeders in the CFL season-opener for both clubs Friday.

Cody Fajardo threw a touchdown pass, while Vincent Blanchard went five-for-five on field goals as the Edmonton Elks defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 29-21 Saturday night in the season opener for both CFL teams.

While the rest of the CFL kicks off Week 1 action, the Riders will be forced to wait even longer to begin their title defence and players aren't too pleased with the schedule.

The CFL announced Thursday it has signed a six-year extension with Bell Media to remain its majority broadcaster. The deal also incorporates DAZN as a new Canadian and international broadcast partner along with YouTube being named a Premier Platform partner.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers opened their 2026 CFL season with a victory over a team they failed to beat in the previous year.
