For about six months, the chiefdom of Bashu, in the territory of Beni, has been relatively calm. Socio-economic activities have resumed in all localities. The population displaced to the cities of Butembo and Beni is gradually returning to their fields. Even remote fields, where joint military operations of Congolese and Ugandan forces continue, are being cultivated again. These military operations target ADF jihadists, responsible for massacres of hundreds of civilians for several years in the region. This lull is attributed to increased vigilance and public confidence in the joint military operations conducted by the Congolese and Ugandan armies. Saddam Patanguli, one of the community leaders of the Bashu chiefdom, explains the reasons for this renewed calm: "This lull is justified by the confidence that the population has placed in joint operations between the army congolese and Ugandan army.
