Colombian authorities are investigating the disappearance of Yulixa Toloza, a 52-year-old woman who vanished on May 13 after suffering complications during a cosmetic procedure at an unlicensed clinic in southern Bogotá. Three nurses from the clandestine establishment have provided statements detailing poor hygiene conditions and revealing that unqualified practitioners performed the procedures. Security footage shows Toloza being removed from the clinic in an unconscious state by two men in a black car that left the city heading south; clinic staff have fled. Prosecutors are examining whether she died as a result of the botched procedure, which could elevate charges to enforced disappearance and homicide, carrying sentences of up to 45 years.
