Adam Silver, commissioner of the American professional basketball league, said the league will use artificial intelligence to automate a certain category of decisions, such as decisions about the ball going out of bounds, with the aim of speeding up the pace of games and reducing disputes over ball possession. Silver compared this system to hawk-eye technology used in tennis, where electronic line-calling technology quickly decides whether the ball has landed inside or outside the court. Silver said on Pat McAfee Show on ESPN today we will transition to such a system as this category of decisions will be decided automatically.
