Written by Joseph Roth (1894-1939), "Job: The Story of a Simple Man" (or "the story of a simple man," in the literal translation from English), from 1930, is one of the most beautiful books I have read in this first semester. With the air of a fable and a plot inspired by the Bible, as the title itself suggests, the novel tells the story of Mendel, a religious Jew who lives with his family in a small town on the borders of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century.
