After the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) told EPM that it now has the green light to raise the water level of the Hidroituango reservoir from 408 to 420 meters above sea level—due to concerns about an imminent El Niño phenomenon—the challenge now shifts to the time available at the hydroelectric facility to reach that ceiling and operate at maximum capacity. This is what Alejandro Arbeláez Arango, manager of Sociedad Hidroituango, stated, saying that ANLA's approval is just the first step of many still pending to achieve the objective. What follows is coordinating with the entity on the matter of forest intervention, that is, the removal of the vegetative layer from the hillsides, in order to reach the expected level and strengthen Antioquia's and the country's electrical system in just under two months.
