More than 100 journalists, media professionals, and human rights defenders gathered in Douala on May 6, 2026, for the 8th National Forum on Press Freedom and Access to Information, with discussions centered on how artificial intelligence is transforming media practices and threatening democratic principles. Supported by the UN Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, participants adopted a final declaration and established a committee to implement recommendations on strengthening journalists' capacity to work with AI tools and ensuring ethical oversight of these technologies.
