As the Alberta government develops new policy regulations that will allow patients to get reimbursed for private-pay medical diagnostic tests, CBC News has found that an AHS reimbursement policy for private MRI, CT and PET/CT scans had already been operating from 2011-2025, without formal approval or announcement to stakeholders. The program was discontinued sometime in 2025 amid lingering questions about who knew about it, how they found out about it, who got their money back, and who didn’t.
