I just became aware through the news — thank God for the free press — that the Trump administration <a href="https://apnews.com/article/national-science-board-nsf-trump-6a23f3ab1b4c6eb131b4e79d95b3536f" target="_blank" rel="" title="https://apnews.com/article/national-science-board-nsf-trump-6a23f3ab1b4c6eb131b4e79d95b3536f">fired all the members</a> of the independent board of the National Science Foundation and then ordered that the current scientific instruments monitoring system of the oceans <a href="https://www.adn.com/nation-world/2026/06/03/scientists-will-lose-critical-climate-record-as-ocean-observatory-goes-dark-under-trump-funding-cuts/" target="_blank" rel="" title="https://www.adn.com/nation-world/2026/06/03/scientists-will-lose-critical-climate-record-as-ocean-observatory-goes-dark-under-trump-funding-cuts/">be decommissioned</a>. These instruments are located off the shore of Alaska, as well as several other states. They provide critical data on ocean metrics that are being used to learn about the oceans, their conditions and changes that are happening that are affecting our weather and fisheries.
