A recent op-ed in opposition to Senate Bill 847 stokes unwanted fears without offering solutions to the shortage of prescribing mental health prescribers in Hawaii (“ There are no shortcuts in mental health ,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, June 24). Due to a 60% shortage of psychiatrists and prescribing advanced practice registered nurses, patients are typically waiting an average of three months to see a prescribing professional. That is the real danger that SB 847 addresses.
