The Autonomous University of Madrid modified criteria for awarding 39 professor positions, establishing rules that exclude teaching prior to 2007 and compress research merit into a narrow scoring band—allowing 6 years of research to score nearly the same as 24 years. More than 80 law professors from 29 universities have signed a letter to the rector demanding reconsideration, citing discriminatory effects on senior scholars, and cases have been appealed to court.
