Brazil's Superior Court of Justice ruled in 2023 that sex change surgeries are medically necessary and must be covered by health insurance plans. Gender affirmation procedures including transgenitalization and breast implants have been incorporated into Brazil's public health system (SUS) and are officially recognized by the Federal Council of Medicine.
