Russian troops are advancing with increasing difficulty on the battlefield in Ukraine and are now retaliating with massive air attacks on Kyiv. European capitals fear that Russian President Vladimir Putin will try to seize the initiative again by expanding the conflict to other parts of Europe, being forced to make increasingly risky choices because of heavy losses on the battlefield.
