Romania's finance minister Alexandru Nazare announced plans for a new public sector wage law that would increase the salary envelope by approximately RON 7.2 billion (4.2% nominal growth) in 2027, a requirement to unlock EUR 700 million in EU funding. The increase comes after public wages were frozen in 2025โ2026 while inflation rose over 15%, and roughly half of state employees would benefit under the proposed framework, which would also eliminate most bonuses and incorporate allowances into base salaries.
