Russia and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on the basic principles of cooperation in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the republic during a state visit by President Vladimir Putin to Astana, TASS reports. The document establishes the key parameters of the project and provides for financing of construction through a Russian state export credit. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2035, by which time Kazakhstan plans to reach a capacity of 2.4 gigawatts.
