Jihadists abducted several dozen students in the Askia Uba district of Borno State, northeastern Nigeria — near the village of Chibok where 274 schoolgirls were taken in 2014. Separate abductions were reported simultaneously in another region of the country, amid a recent surge in attacks on civilians and military bases in the area.

The Defence Headquarters said on Monday at least 20 Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) fighters have been killed in coordinated airstrikes in the Metele general area of Borno State. The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
