Marc Bloch had been arrested by the Gestapo in Lyon on March 8, 1944. Imprisoned and tortured at Montluc prison, he was shot along with 27 of his comrades.

Germany returned on Thursday to the family of historian and resistance fighter Marc Bloch seven works stolen during World War II. This restitution comes as this resistance fighter is set to enter the Panthéon on June 23, in accordance with Emmanuel Macron's wishes, who had praised the "work, teaching and courage" of the resistance fighter.
