The Tennessee Democratic Party, four Democratic House candidates, and four voters filed a federal lawsuit Friday challenging the GOP-controlled legislature's redistricting plan that removed Memphis's majority-Black, majority-Democratic congressional district. The challenge marks the second legal challenge to Governor Bill Lee's signed redistricting map.

Tennessee's legislature passed a new U.S. congressional map that favors Republicans in all nine of the state's districts before the midterm election. The bill passed Thursday and is expected to be signed by Governor Bill Lee following a tight legislative deadline for map approval.
