The order to accelerate the implementation of the Temporary Placement Zones (ZUT) of combatants, three months after the end of his mandate and in the middle of the electoral campaign, raised questions about the true intentions of President Gustavo Petro, since he intends to concentrate some criminals without having the legal framework to demobilize them. The controversy arose after a meeting on May 13, in which the head of state participated; the Commissioner of Peace, Otty Patiño; and the main coordinators of the "total peace" tables that are still active: Armando Novoa, Isabel Zuleta, Carlos Erazo, Mauricio Silva, Gloria Quiceno, Álvaro Jiménez, Fabio Cardozo, Camilo Pineda and Alexánder Castillo. At the meeting, held in Bogotá, they took stock of the processes and their difficulties, after which Petro issued an order: "Fast forward with the transfer of the members of the illegal armed groups to five ZUTs (from seven agreed until now), defined within the framework of the peace processes in prioritized territories ", as stated in the communiqué following that meeting.

A Colombian Army soldier, Ever Nardo Pazu Pena, was killed by an ELN sniper while on patrol in the La Campiña neighborhood of Fortul, Arauca department. The attack is part of an escalating pattern of targeted sniper assassinations by the National Liberation Army against military and police personnel across Arauca and Norte de Santander since August 2025, reflecting persistent insurgent activity in Colombia's northeastern border region.
