Afghanistan's state electricity company reports that the CASA-1000 regional power transmission project has reached 80% completion, with work expected to finish in the first quarter of 2027—ahead of the original 2027 deadline. Once complete, the project will allow Afghanistan to earn $40–50 million annually in transit revenues by transferring Central Asian electricity to South Asia, while also providing cheaper electricity domestically and creating jobs.
