Historians have reconstructed the 19th-century rescue of nearly 40 Chilean sailors who were left adrift after a corvette sank off Iquique. The sailors were rescued by the Peruvian ship Huáscar under Lieutenant Luis Uribe's command but were then held in captivity in Peruvian territory, narrowly surviving a bombardment by their own squadron at the port's customs house.
