The 32 member countries of the International Energy Agency pledged to release 400 million barrels of crude oil from their Strategic Petroleum Reserves following Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which triggered significant oil price spikes. The United States committed 172 million barrels of the total release, more than double its contribution during the 2022 Ukraine crisis response.
