The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, an Arctic bunker housing over 1.3 million agricultural seed samples from around the world, has been awarded the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Cooperation. Spain recently contributed over 1,000 vegetable varieties, including cereals, legumes, and olive seeds, to the facility, which serves as a global backup for food crop diversity in case of climate catastrophes or conflict.
